A person

Anne-Sarah Le Meur explores the plastic potential of virtual 3D space. Influenced by Turrell and painting (Pollock, Rothko...), she uses computer language to divert conventions and generate new matter, shapes, colorful sensations and luminous phenomena, in constant metamorphosis. Her images and installations question and stimulate perception.
At the same time, she teaches at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and produces texts on her own approach or on artistic or interactive 3D images.

After two years of maths, Le Meur arrived at Paris 8 to study 3D computer art. There she discovered contemporary art and experimental cinema. To explore what the computer could bring to art, she decided to use its language (computer science), however difficult and abstract it might be. Deeply in love with painting, she intuitively drew inspiration from it, creating 'lyrical' abstract 3D images.
Her first period (1990-2001) was materialistic, combining wired textures and stretched pixels with irregular, tactile effects. Then Le Meur radicalized his approach, reducing the 3D form to a smooth surface, facing the screen, where luminous spots appear. Playfully inverting a value, she discovers a negative, black, fascinating light with multiple evocations. The artist then developed performances and single-screen or polyptych installations (1 to 6 projections), in which she studied color relationships in real-time 3D images. In this long project, there is a cylindrical interactive installation (Interface-Z, Le Cube and ZKM), counter-intuitive, valuing slowness and reciprocity in interaction. ‘Reacting' to your gaze, the image disappears if you go too fast, reappears in a corner and, if you don't look at it, becomes more colorful and closer. Viewers thus explore their own perceptive behaviour.
Le Meur has developed (support: Didier Bouchon) her own real-time 3D software, with which she writes her code and generates her creations, performances and installations.
