XYZT Abstract Landscapes

produced by Adrien M & Claire B
2011

An exhibit-promenade along ten immersive and interactive installations designed to physically engage audiences. Four letters derived from the mathematical language are the key to open an imaginary landscape bordering the visual and performing arts.

"Mathematical paradoxes, typographical illusions and metaphors in motion shape the landscapes of this exhibition. Strolling through a luxuriant digital space, being able to touch algorithms and sense the matter of light are some of the imaginary fields to be discovered." -Claire Bardainne and Adrien Mondot

X (horizontality), Y (verticality), Z (depth) and T (time) describe the movement of a point in space, and embody the essence of this imaginary territory. Visiting the exhibit is like taking a stroll, like walking across another form of nature, a renewed one, at the fringe of the geometrical and the organic worlds. It offers a sensitive experience to the public, who are invited to play with the light of a landscape made up of lines, dots and letters, to encounter a virtual material that is vibrant, ephemeral, mobile, through movement and dance.

The installations that make up this walk offer variations in scale: some are large and panoramic, while others are smaller and more intimate, offering a variety of sensations. The modules play with time and dimensions; for visitors, they present an opportunity to inhabit a space where experiences are reduced to the essentials. Through simple manipulations, they are able to create shapes and re-sketch the world, to enjoy playing without rules, borrowing from juggling the taste for play without rules and from science the appetite for curiosity and exploration.
