Culture VR - L’Arrivée d’un train en gare de La Ciotat

L’Arrivée d’un train en gare de La Ciotat

about

By reconstructing an 1896 movie theatre, this digital experience offers the opportunity to attend a famous event: the first screening of the Lumière brothers’ short film, The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station.

This film is reputed to have caused such an uproar in the audience that some spectators would have run away, convinced that a train was indeed running towards them.

If we control the speed of the train by scrolling, the animations multiply the effects of surprise by alternating parallaxes and fades in and out.

The comedy of the historical anecdote is amplified since the train actually goes out of the box… and out of the screen !
